About

We are partners who make pots together in our home studio in Louisville, KY.

You can buy our work here, or catch us at selected events around town. To see where we will be in person, sign up for our e-newsletter (1-2 times a month or less, I promise!), or follow our Instagram @BackyardKiln.

Taylor

Hi! I'm Taylor (they/them). I've been in love with clay since my first class in 2019. I built my own basement studio shortly thereafter, and once all my relatives and my own cabinets were full to brimming with beginner pots, I began to sell my best work on Etsy. I met my partner, Sophie, in 2019, and quickly brought her into my studio to play. I love cats, gardening, reading, succulents and houseplants, vegan baking, drawing, boba tea, making and browsing Instagram stories, and playing Candy Crush Soda Saga.

I've recently branched out into digital art as well, and hope to soon be selling prints and stickers here on the website.

If you like to see behind the scenes of pottery-making, memes, gardening, beekeeping, and cat drama, please check out my Instagram stories or Tiktok. www.instagram.com/backyardkiln

I also often livestream throwing, trimming, and hand-building live on Reddit, on the r/TheArtistStudio or at u/backyardkiln.

Sophie

Sophie threw her first pots on Taylor’s wheel in 2019. She’s been passionately working on glaze combinations ever since. Sophie started selling her work at Backyard Kiln’s farmers market booth in 2021, and you’ll see some pieces from her here, as well as collaborations between her and Taylor. Sophie’s other interests include beekeeping, reading, gardening, knitting, British murder mysteries, keeping abreast of the latest in politics and science, crossword puzzles, and scrolling TikTok.
